First of all I congratulate the entire Vaaranam aayiram team for the wonderful effort that trying to take indian cinema to a next level. Special kudos to Director Gautam Vasudev Menon, Music Director Harris Jayaraj,Cameraman Rathnavelu and Surya. Efoorts of these people are very much noticeable in the movie. It has the equal mix of family sentiment, romance, action and music. Eventhough the style of the screen play reminds the english movie Forrest Gump, it requires courage to try out it in the indian cine industry with this kind of budget. It also resembles the tamil movie "Autograph" in some scenes. Since the style of screen play and the language is most suitable forthe educated audiences, the movie will get a mixed review
from Average to Excellent. But there will not be any negative comments.

The movie explains the father-son relationship and son's admiration about his father which he never thought of before the death of his father. Surya has played both father and son roles. For that he took an admiring effort to differentiate between these two roles. And for the son's role, he should have toiled in gym for hours together to get the looks of a School boy to a College Goer to a Drug Addict to an Army Officer. Surely people will really start compare Surya to Kamalahassan in these kind of efforts. But as usual, like Kamalahassan, Surya took both the roles. Its most of our dream to have multiple big stars in a single tamil movie like Bollywood or Hollywood. Try to imagine the father role in this movie by Kamalahassan or Sivakumar or Sathyaraj or anyother potential Indian actor. These kind of combinations will improve the quality and the versatility. Why Al Pacino didn't do both Vito Corleone and Michael Corleone in
God Father?
The cool thing about the movie is the introduction of Sameera Reddy to tamil industry. She could have been here some 4 to 5 years ago. Anyways there will be more fan clubs to her in Tamilnadu soon. I am planning to join if someone starts. I am already gone crazy when i saw her in Jai Chiranjeeva. Now she bowled me over again in this movie...
Songs and music are typical Harris Jayaraj style... Thamarai is beautiful with her pen. "Nenjukkul Peydhidum Maamzhai", "Mundinam Paarthaene" and "Anal Maele Panithuli" will be in music channels for long time. Tunes remins more of coir songs with the guitar strings. Churches also one of the source for Harris jayaraj's creativity.
Cinematography is of international quality and the costume designing is wonderful. Divya (Previously Ramya) is pleasant and did a decent job with her scope in the movie. Balancing the frequency of songs and the time duration before and after interval could have been little better if they noticed.
Over all my comment is "A must see movie"... If you can relate something to your life, father, mother, family, girl friend(s) etc... this is going to be a memorable movie... As at the end of this movie, it advises the audience that "whatever happens, the Life Should Go on".. so am gonna follow the same advice...
