It became a routine in parliament to talk about the 33% reservation to women and without any conclusion it will vanish off from the topic. I am very much surprised to see why people are asking only for 33%. Why not 50%? When we say men and women are equal, they have to raise their request to 50%.
I think as of now there is no restriction to women to have more than 50% also. So, why they are restricting themselves to a meager 33%? Those parties who are seeking for this reservation can nominate more number of female candidates as many as they wish. Let them develop and groom women to hold such positions.
I am not sarcastic in my writing or I am not a male chauvinist. Most of these arguments in parliament are politics. In reality there are women who are more capable of holding such positions than men. But the number is very tiny. But we can increase the number by some other ways, not by restricting them to a 33%. Educate them, Train them and Let them feel they are equal to men. Our Systems are not providing a comfort to them to feel they are as good as men. If you get a special income tax slab just because of your gender, it’s indirectly telling you that you are not equal to other gender. If you are getting a railway ticket or cinema ticket before other people just because of your gender, it implies that you are not equal to other gender. If you are getting a job or promotion just because of your gender, (apart from the situation where the nature of job requires such discrimination) you are not treated as equal.
I can see a quite number of people who are taking advantage of their gender over others. Most of the organization treats their women workforce with a special attention. But I don’t deny that there are women getting abused mentally and physically in work places. But it’s not happening in all the places. At least, I don’t find it in my organization.
Physically men and women are not same. Apart from that I don’t find any other thing differentiating them or degrading one from other. Girls are always getting higher number of pass outs in schools and colleges. Most of the times, they are the toppers. They hold positions in many MNC. There are increasing female candidature for IAS and other governmental positions. But when coming to politics, the number of active participants is very low. Men has to let them participate in more politics, they have to make them feel they are equal to men.
Without doing this, if you mandate a law to have one third of our Leaders based on gender, then I guess the following things will continue
Just to fill the positions, incapable women will get the posts.
Men who are disqualified to contest will nominate their wives for the posts.
Female candidates will act as puppets to some evil men.
Women will not achieve the equilibrium with men.
So Gals (of my generation), don’t get deceived by these political dramas. Don’t accept any special considerations which insults your gender except maternity leaves, Exclusive Seats in buses/trains (If you really need it), Exclusive dormitories and other considerations which are necessary to keep your dignity. Don’t restrict yourselves to 33%.
